ATUK essex bimble 17th april 2021
This was the first trip i had run since last summer due to the constraints of lockdown, the nerves had set in previously and i had started to wonder if it was a good idea!
The trip had to be run under strict rules regarding the amount of people involved and keeping socially distanced from each other, all of which happened with no problems whatsoever.
The day started at about 0945 at Haverhill and unusually for this year the weather was superb, hardly a cloud in the sky and warm as long as you were out of the wind.
We drove mostly graded or hard packed tracks and found that they were on the whole not overgrown or too scratchy.
Essex provides a large quantity of “all weather” tracks that can pretty much be driven all year round, there are some contentious tracks and its always worth planning your stops carefully to avoid upsetting the locals, its very common for tracks to have big expensive houses at each end so worth bearing in mind.
We made our way from Haverhill over to Saffron Walden before heading south and finishing with a river crossing at Great Dunmow taking in many beautiful classic Essex villages alongside the big wide open arable fields.
Thanks so much to steve welsh, the beamonts and team jimny jaunts who made the day so good.
