On Sunday the 23rd of May, volunteers from ATUK carried out a fencing project alongside Barnham Slip byway (which forms part of the Icknield Way), in Elveden, Suffolk.
A section of the byway had become damaged due to surface water and after heavy rain become impassable. Unfortunately , rather than turn around, the vehciles have trespassed into the adjacent woodland and create a new track, much to the frustration of the adjacent land owner. Β ATUK Maintenance Fund provided fencing materials, and ATUK members erected the new fence, signage erected, little picked and scrub moved in front of the new fencing to encourage vehicles to stay on the legal route.
Now the ground had dried out, the byway is now passable with care. This is an example of how ATUK works with land owners adjacent next byways to help create a positive image of motorised users to other groups connected to the byways in one shape or form.
In the afternoon we took advantage of being in the area to run a couple of small laning trips, a much welcomed and overdue rest bite that couldn’t happen during COVID related lockdowns previously. A big thanks from the ATUK SteerCo for those that volunteered on the day.
