Coast to Country
The traditional ATUK “fish and chip run” is a popular event. As several friends were unable to make
this trip in November, I volunteered to lead a repeat run last Sunday (26 th January). To ring the
changes a bit we decide it would be interesting to tackle the route in reverse! No that doesn’t mean
we drove in reverse (although we sometimes did!) – we started the lanes from near Hunstanton and
ended up in Thetford forest with a plan to have dinner at the local “Hungry Horse” pub.
But first we had to drive to the Coast from near Cambridge. James Edwards aka “Taffy” volunteered
to cook the breakfast so for our planned rendezvous at 0715 we were greeted by a great selection of
Bacon and sausage butties. A great start to the day!
Hitting the road at just after 0745 we enjoyed a traffic free journey in lovely winter sunshine to meet
the rest of our group in Sedgeford, Norfolk for our planned start time of 0930.
Our group consisted of my Defender 110, James and Stuart in their 2 Defender 90’s, and James and
Jane and David in their 2 Discovery 1’s, with passengers we had a total of 11 “crew”, including Harry
our resident wildlife photographer who also managed to capture some great action shots of our
Landys too!
Having Harry along as my passenger provided a whole new dimension to the trip with him spotting
numerous birds from Buzzards to Green Woodpeckers and Mistle Thrushes. Just goes to show there
is always something new to learn about and see when out on our green lanes!
All in all, a super day out in excellent winter sunshine in good company. Thanks Stuart, Steve, James,
David, Harry, James, Jane and the children.
