ATUK Dorset weekender june 2019

ATUK Dorset weekender
The weekend came about by planning it over 6 months in advance, our Dorset team headed up by graham Mathews were outstanding in their help and planning regarding the two routes that they put in place for us.
The two routes were designated “east” and “west” and broadly speaking were each side of the beautiful town of Dorchester, they took in famous landmarks such as Corfe castle, Lulworth cove and the area inland from the tank ranges at Bovington, there was a stretch of chesil beach and large parts of cracking countryside to the west of Dorchester.
Terrain varied wildly from wide open ridge ways with stunning sea views to tight and technical forest and rock sections, it really is an area worth a visit.
As well as the hardy tent campers, other accommodation options were available on site or nearby.
Some chose local Air B & B, others the local Premier Inn and a core group brought their own caravans
along and joined the campers in a little more comfort!
Longthorns Farm Campsite proved an ideal location with excellent facilities and a choice of camping
areas and some friendly Alpacas for neighbours. “Glamping” options in shepherds huts or tipi tents
were also available.
Whatever the choice of residence, most members gathered for a social BBQ and a few drinks on the
Saturday night which allowed all the 4 different laning groups to meet up, and also meet the local
members form the Dorset area who had done so much to support the weekend.
From my own experience the groups were all well led and the routes followed provided a great mix
of amazing views, a few fords and differing terrain and styles of lanes. All the group leaders, Steve,
Darren, Kirk, David and Neill did a great job and proved one of the aims of ATUK is to give members
the confidence to lead and organise routes themselves.
Thanks must go to our “leaders” and the gang from Dorset for all the efforts in helping to make sure
the weekend was a great success.
This trip exemplifies what allterrainuk is all about, great tracks, great people coming together from lots of areas!
