We’re absolutely thrilled to announce a big step forward for our green‑laning friends: the Smart Trail app is here (kind of)! 🚀
Yes — we actually made an app. No, we still can’t quite believe it either. 😅
Our band of volunteers have been quietly tinkering behind the scenes so we can bring you something genuinely handy — the Smart Trail app, designed to help you find lanes, plot routes, and create GPX files with ease.
Here’s the honest low‑down:
- 📱 Android only (for now): Sorry Apple fans! We are working on an iOS version and hope to roll it out early next year.
- 🛠️ Very early days: Expect a few bumps and ruts while we smooth things out.
- 🗺️ Works online only: It needs a signal to do its magic (this means a mobile or WiFi connection).
- 💚 Free to download, but login required: The Smart Trail app is free to install, but to log in and use it you’ll need to be a paid member of All Terrain UK.
Why did we build it? Because our mission is to make green laning smarter, safer and more sustainable — and this app helps bring that mission into your vehicle or on your mobile:
- View and search lanes across England & Wales. (Mapping currently covers England & Wales.)
- See live lane status and access restrictions.
- Plot and save GPX routes for your next adventure.
- Open directions in Google Maps or what3words.
- Ad‑free and full‑screen map experience.
We built it because we believe that green laning isn’t just a hobby — it’s a community, a way to enjoy the countryside responsibly, to work with landowners and local councils, and to share in the adventure with friends. The Smart Trail app is another tool to help you, as a member, get more out of your membership, explore more safely, and respect the lanes we love.

Since we’re in version 1.0, your feedback matters. If you spot a bug, a mapping issue, or have suggestions for features you’d love to see — please let us know. We’re powered mostly by biscuits, determination and volunteer time!
