November 2019 saw members from across Eastern England and further afield meet in
Thetford for the traditional “Pilgrimage” known as the Fish and Chip run! (there has to be an
incentive to drive 6 hours or so to the beach arriving in the dark in November!!)
Our 4 groups of members ably led by Kirk Pearson (ATUK Chairman) David Munden (now famous
after his recent appearance in LRO magazine) David Rolls and Andy Sampson ( our Suffolk Local
Support team) assisted by navigators Darren Robert and Adrian Horsley.
Setting off on 2 different routes, including a non-scratchy option for those of us who prefer our
paintwork to stay shiny, or an uber scratchy option for those who like to try and hide! – the group
represented several makes of vehicle, in line with ATUK ethos of not favouring any specific
manufacturer.
Despite a long period of heavy rain across much of the UK for the last few weeks, East Anglia and
Norfolk specifically is fortunate with lanes being sustainable due to either sandy or chalky soils. As a
result, we all enjoyed a good mix of forestry tracks, trees with fantastic autumn colours and some
great heathland views.
A new venue for Fish and Chips in “Sunny Hunny” – Henry’s of Hunstanton – proved a great choice.
Excellent fish and chips, proper sit-down tables and attended service and everything! And they did
Puddings! And had toilets!
A great day was had by all those who came along. Thanks to our group leaders and to Kirk for
organising the day and organising routes with support from the group leaders, and to Anna Taylor for
being “group catering organiser” and sorting out the Fish and Chips!
